OF GOOD CHARACTER 6
Analyze the Promise
Getting people confused about Jesus.
1. The spirit at work amongst those who do not believe what Jesus CAN do. (Ephesians 2:1-2)
Still under Satan’s authority
2 CORINTHIANS 4:4
…for their minds have been blinded by the god of this age, leaving them in unbelief. Their blindness keeps them from seeing the dayspring light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the divine image of God.
2. The shame, blame, and fear of the unknown that exists in believers causes them to doubt what Jesus HAS done.
He has rescued us completely from the tyrannical rule of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom realm of his beloved Son. For in the Son all our sins are canceled and we have the release of redemption through his very blood.
Free from Satans authority but not walking through faith in the fullness of our God-given authority
How do we hold on to what God has already done in our character so it can start to prevail and not be undermined?
And you will open their eyes to their true condition, so that they may turn from darkness to the Light and from the power of Satan to the power of God. By placing their faith in me they will receive the total forgiveness of sins and be made holy, taking hold of the inheritance that I give to my children!’
Taking Hold: the focussed and constant conviction or belief of the truth, respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust in God’s promises with holy fervor born in faith.
That sounds like a great definition for the Arena of Peace.
We take hold by being focussed, holding to a constant conviction, train ourselves in the unwavering trust of God by pressing back the shame, blame, and the fear of the unknown.
Through our faith in Jesus, we remove our distractions and excuses to see others lose their confusion about Jesus.
I want to have a good character so I can look like Jesus to others who may not believe what he can do OR what he has done!
Your good character, when coming together with others who are also in training with Jesus, is the hope of the world!
We prove that we can conquer the spirit of this world, we prove what Jesus has already done
HUMILITY, FAITH, AND STRENGTH
We operate in vulnerability, transparency, and revelation. We seek feedback from others, we manage our thought lives and we read scripture until the revelation of God results in our immediate obedience to His promises.
1 PETER 5:6-8
If you bow low in God’s awesome presence, he will eventually exalt you as you leave the timing in his hands. Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you. Be well balanced and always alert, because your enemy, the devil, roams around incessantly, like a roaring lion looking for its prey to devour.
If we are so intoxicated by today’s culture or the culture of our minds that we are not even aware that we are under its influence
Movies we watched when we first fell in love with Jesus…
Language changes we made…
Attention to our marriages…
Attentions to morals, dignity, biblical principles of engagement…
If our character is slipping so is our attention to God’s promises.
GODS PROMISES ARE THE FOUNDATION OF OUR CONFIDENCE, CONSISTENCY, AND GROWTH
BECAUSE OF YOUR WORD
Jesus sat down and taught the people from the boat. When he had finished, he said to Peter, “Now row out to deep water to cast your nets and you will have a great catch.”
“Master,” Peter replied, “we’ve just come back from fishing all night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you insist, we’ll go out again and let down our nets because of your word.”
We don’t obey because we have reasoned it out, we obey because Jesus has spoken it out
You don’t have to understand completely to obey immediately.
…you have to train, fall down, get up, and train some more. We can never say “I got this…” or “I can’t do this”.
Because of your promise, I will keep training.
…it feels stupid or we are embarrassed to do it.
…it makes no sense at all.
(How the Pro’s do it)
Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.
Trust (batah): to have careless confidence, to cling to, to have unwavering hope in, to boldly go along with despite personal apprehension.
In order to cling to God;’s promises and be intimate with Him, you have to consider what you are holding.
The excitement of the promise causes us to put down the excitement of the moment!
Putting down my own understanding, my own wisdom, plans, fears, and shame is made easy when we obey, cling to God;’s promises.
But we cannot cling to God’s promises if we are clutching on to our own junk. Johari’s window helps us become junk aware so we can put it down.
God’s promises are not laws and regulations but hope-filled course corrections (go into the deep) that release the fruit of His character in our lives.
LORD HELP ME OBEY YOUR PROMISES EVEN WHEN I DON’T UNDERSTAND. LORD HELP ME SURRENDER WHAT I CANNOT CONTROL.
“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
You don’t always have the power to control but you do have the power to surrender.
THE PROCESS OF GOD’S PROMISE
At the moment that shame, guilt, and the fear of the unknown gripped humankind, God spoke a promise. It felt like a judgment, but it was a journey of promise.
GENESIS 3:15 the seed is promised that will destroy Satan and his effect on unbelievers and believers.
Jesus is the basis of the promise.
Jesus was sent to show the promise of God
“If you have seen me you have seen my Father”
I have commissioned them to represent me just as you commissioned me to represent you.
The promise of God was Jesus’ purpose
And now we have been commissioned to have the same purpose: to walk out, to take hold of, to cling to the promises of God.
But remember we cannot cling to God’s promises if we are clinging on to our own junk.
…let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
The promises (what God has set before us) are our purpose.
He has set before us a purpose and given us everything we need to have the good character to walk it out.
God was so passionate that He sent the Holy Spirit to give us all the gifts we need to obey the promises and fulfill our destiny and purpose!
GOOD CHARACTER PRODUCES GOOD THINGS
Obeying the promises of God in your life produces good fruit.
We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!
YOU HAVE BEEN MADE GOOD BY HIM TO GET UP TO GOOD
YOUR BLAME SHAME AND FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN ALWAYS END IN NO GOOD.
Your purpose is not found or realized in your efforts but it is the fruit of His promises in you. – Your good character – in training!
Your good decisions, responses, and habits are all a result of God’s promises being obeyed.
Your good character can never come from the enemy’s promises of shame, blame, and the fear of the unknown.
YOUR UNIQUE GOOD
“…given each of us a destiny to fulfill.”
BECAUSE YOU ARE UNIQUE, YOUR PURPOSE (THE FRUIT OF GODS PROMISES IN YOU) WILL BE UNIQUE
Your study challenge:
You can make a difference in your world
(Mark 5:19 and Proverbs 3:27-28)
You can make a difference beyond your world
(1 Corinthians 9:22 and Galatians 6:2)
You can make a difference in the whole world
Please make a difference, be of good character
GODS PROMISE IS YOUR PURPOSE
1. It’s already in you (Jeremiah 1:4-8)
2. You will always be able to see your purpose (His Promise) in every circumstance (Genesis 50:20)
3. His promises make you fearless in the face of any circumstance or opportunity (Esther 4:14-16)
4. No matter your blame, shame, and fear, God wants to have incredible encounters with you (Acts 9:1-6)
Always looking, always seeing, always being aware of the promises of God is what good character kind of people do. We have a culture of promise. The excitement of faith and the fruit of Him in our lives. We don’t shrink back from shame or cower in blame. We do not fear the unknown. No, we rush headlong to uncover it and use it to spur us on towards our purpose and His promise!
I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him. I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling—that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!
I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you! This is the mighty power that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm!
