HOPE IN ACTION
The Church is the hope of the world…
1. We carry the only message of real truth in the world.
1 Timothy 3:15
But if I’m delayed in coming, you’ll already have these instructions on how to conduct the affairs of the church of the living God, his very household and the supporting pillar and firm foundation of the truth.
The truth of Jesus and His finished work on the cross is something that the world must hear. As a local church community, we have been divinely positioned to bring that truth to the people closest to us.
2. We are super naturally empowered with gifts to step out of the limits of human judgement and limitations
2 Peter 1:3
Everything we could ever need for life and godliness has already been deposited in us by his divine power. For all this was lavished upon us through the rich experience of knowing him who has called us by name and invited us to come to him through a glorious manifestation of his goodness.
3. We are the living proof of God’s existence and His love
So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.”
The church is in relationship with the father by nature of their faith in Jesus Christ. As such we are the only ones who fully embrace His love and are best qualified to show it to others.
4. We pray to a living God and see Him answer our prayers
“I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.
…for tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer!
5. We remain united, with no challenge breaking our resolve
Whatever happens, keep living your lives based on the reality of the gospel of Christ. Then when I come to see you, or hear good reports of you, I’ll know that you stand united in one Spirit and one passion—celebrating together as conquerors in the faith of the gospel.
Whatever we have received or is revealed to us, we acknowledge that it is for others and not ourselves.
We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!
IT IS TIME FOR US TO UNLEASH THE POWER OF THE CHURCH:
Our Communities Are Sick
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
Unleash the truth
Go beyond our human capabilities
Demonstrate irrational love
See the real time change through prayer
Face challenges together
1 Peter 1:13
So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you.
Being the Hope of the County is going to take action and a focus!
Choosing what you want most over what you want now!
THE METHODOLOGY OF A GOOD VISION
He was a Jewish man in the service of the Persian King Artaxerxes. He was the cup bearer, which meant he not only served the king wine, but more importantly tasted it to ensure it wasn’t poison.
After 70 years of exile the Jews were returning to their homeland. Nehemiah had some friends that just returned from Jerusalem and he asked how things were there.
Nehemiah 1:3 (NLT)
They said to me, “Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”
Significance of a wall around a city in that time.
The people living in Brown County are vulnerable and at risk. The enemy can easily come in and attack them.
Nehemiah didn’t just hope things would get better, he..
1. DEFINED THE PROBLEM
We can’t defeat what we don’t define!
Then one day you turn the page to read… “WE MUST REBUILD THE WALL.”
FROM THIS POINT FORWARD,… ITS DIFFERENT.
2. DILIGENTLY SEEK GOD.
When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven.
There is a reality check. The situation of the need should break you!
The brokenness of the situation is in fact the source of our passion to see God restore, heal and overcome.
The most powerful way to restore a community is to restore that which God values the most.
We will start and at times fail,
We don’t have what it takes.
We’re not qualified to do that
Yes but thats if we do it on our own strength.
Nehemiah diligently sought God and took ownership of the problem, and the solution. But the “how do we get there” part – thats where our miracle working God steps in.
1. Define the problem
2. Diligently seek God
And #3 …
3. DO THE WORK.
Nehemiah did this when he got to Jerusalem.
After inspecting the damage to the wall personally and acknowledging the extent of the damage, he gathered all the leaders of Jerusalem, the priests, nobles, officials and said to them
Nehemiah 2:17-18 NLT
…“You know very well what trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire. Let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and end this disgrace!” Then I told them about how the gracious hand of God had been on me…, They replied at once, “Yes, let’s rebuild the wall!” So they began the good work.
The good news is, you are going to do the work, but the GREAT news is you are not doing it alone, God has backed His church to do it together!
There will be opposition!
But we have resolve…
“I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down.”
1. DEFINE THE PROBLEM: FAMILY
Every single day 16 investigations are made into hurting and broken situation by the CPS
11 cases a day are lodged for potential abuse of one or more family members
Our families are broken
Marriages are being attacked
Generations are being set back
Children are not thriving…
2. DILIGENTLY SEEK GOD
1. Build Grace-Based Families.
As Joshua recounts the story of the conquest of the Promised Land, he reminds them of what the Lord had done for them. (Joshua 24:11-13)
2. Teach Families to Worship God.
(Restore family identity and purpose)
‘‘Now fear the Lord” (Joshua 24:14a).
FEAR: “inner devotion” that causes us to honor God.
Creating the atmosphere of honor
Restoring the identity of families
3. Restore the Power of Obedience
Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
4. Heritage and Generations to Come
Honor Up – Honor Down
Matthew 1 – the heritage of Jesus that impacted generations to come.
The power of tradition and respect
The power of the blessing
5. Families who serve their communities together
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15b).
3. DO THE WORK
A plan that will affect the buildings, we build, the teachings we offer.
Cast vision: Family center, counseling center, youth facilities, the emergence of Christian Education
Marriage, Relationship Coaching
CUPS – DIVINELY BLESSED WHEN BLESSING OTHERS
RAFFEL – THE FUTURE GENERATIONS MATTER
FELLOWSHIP AT THE FOOD TRUCKS – FAMILY MEALS
T SHIRTS – IDENTITY
TREES – OAKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
